Fair Isle

Saturday, January 28th, 2006

This is my latest project. In Lite Lopi at 5sts to the inch, the stitch pattern will be repeated substituting blue for the green in every other repeat. The original plan was for a sweater, but I’ve really been wanting a v-neck sweater vest so right now I’m leaning in that direction. I’m using Ann Budd’s book as a guide again, consulting an Interweave vest pattern as I go. My plan is to start at 36″ and then increase to 38″ around the bust.

triumphs and shawls

Saturday, January 21st, 2006

The triumph - today I finished the second red, white, and green sock slipper.

The shawl - Piecework claims that the Old Shale Shawl I am knitting will some day look like this:

Mine currently looks like this:

I’ve 24 rows left and I’ve been reduced to tears twice (ripping out multiple rows of lace - twice). I sure hope that everyone is right about the miracles of blocking lace.

Sock slippers

Sunday, January 15th, 2006

I love to knit sock slippers. Nothing is better then walking around the house in thick wool socks. They use very little yarn - this photo is of a sock made with leftovers from the sweater I knit for my niece Abby. Plus, they are a great way to try out color patterns without committing to a whole sweater. For this pair I used Ann Budd’s Handy Book of Sweater Patterns and Lion Brand Wool-ease. The color pattern is fairly classic.

A little mohair

Sunday, January 15th, 2006

This is the shawl that I wore in the 2004 Boston Knit Out fashion show. The cream yarn is Lion Brand’s mohair/acrylic blend Imagine and the rainbow yarn is Glace mohair. It’s made up of two squares worked in the round on size 15 needles. It was great fun to knit and great fun to wear. the pattern is on the left.

Kids in Sweaters

Thursday, January 5th, 2006

This is a photo of my niece and nephew in the sweaters I knit them for Christmas. Both are in Lion Brand Wool-Ease (warm and washable, important for the mother). His sweater I designed from scratch. The shaping for her sweater comes from Ann Budd’s The Knitter’s Handy Book of Sweater Patterns and the color patterns are mine.

First blog entry

Thursday, January 5th, 2006

Here is my first official blog entry with a photo of a cardigan that I designed a few years ago. (I’m wearing it right now!) I’m starting a blog to post photos of knitting projects and design ideas. No philosophy. No rantings about the meaning of life. Just knitting.
